YDL Division Two Knockout Cup Final

Yesterday saw the Yeovil League Division Two Knockout Cup final between our A-Team and South Cheriton United Reserves, held in beautiful sunshine at Somerton Recreation Ground.

The game started off fairly evenly with both sides enjoying spells of possession with one of Milborne’s attacks resulting in a penalty shout not given by the referee. However, it was South Cheriton who took the lead after they capitalised on a corner & Milborne A went in at half time 1 – 0 down. After the break, South Cheriton had more of the possession and made it count by scoring from another corner. The two goal lead didn’t last long as Mark Lawrence powered home a header from a Milborne free kick making the score 2-1. Milborne fought well and pressed for an equaliser but South Cheriton defended well and the game finished 2 – 1 with Milborne A captain Duncan Beardsley getting a second yellow card a few minutes from full time.

After the presentation of the medals & trophy for the cup final were over, both teams were presented with the medals & cups for the league with South Cheriton & Milborne finishing in the top two of the Yeovil League Division 2. Congratulations to South Cheriton United Reserves and also a huge congratulations go to Ben Crossley & his team on a fantastic season!
