This Month In Milborne – September 2021

It’s been a tricky start to life in Dorset League Division 1 for Mark Bennett’s newly promoted reserves side, starting off with three tricky games and missing players through injury they sit in 13th after losing all three games.

They started the season with a 4-2 loss to Boscombe Polonia before losing against Bisterne United Dorset & Upwey & Broadwey 5 – 0 & 10 – 0 respectively. Josh Gear & Jake Rawlings are level as top scorer with one goal a piece.

Hopefully October brings some easier games and positive results.

In contrast, Ben Crossley’s A-team have started the season fantastically, finishing the month unbeaten. They started by drawing their opener with Langport Town 2 – 2 & their second match against South Cheriton United Reserves was abandoned in the second half due to poor light.

However, they have won their next three games; 9 – 0 at home to Pen Mill Athletic Reserves, 4 – 2 away to Stoke Sub Hamdon Reserves & 8 – 1 at home to AFC Strode Reserves. This great form sees them sit in second with 10 points & a goal difference of +18 after four games. Adam Sprake ends October as the top scorer with 5 goals, with Ed Pullen hot on his heels with 4.

The veterans have one win from one game, starting their season with a last minute 3 – 2 away win against Forton Rangers. The goal scorers that day Duncan Beardsley, Simon Fox & Robert Whitmarsh-Trew all share the spoils for top scorer.

In the youth teams, after suffering several match postponements, the U16’s have one win from one against Westland Sports Youth U16 Puma. The Under 15’s have three wins from three & are second on goal difference while after losing their first two games, the Under 14’s have won their last two, the last of which was a great 17 – 0 win over Ilchester U14 Phantoms.

Two losses and one win for the U12’s in the playoff section of their league sees them placed into Division 2.
